Verna Dunshee Trail is a gorgeous loop that runs for 12.5 miles through forest and meadows. The trail provides stunning views of the Missouri River Valley, as well as access to a number of wonderful spots to stop and enjoy nature. Here are some things you can do while on the trail:
-Start at the Verna Dunshee Trailhead and hike the first two miles up to Echo Lake. This is an easy section with great views of the valley.
-Continue hiking and reach Echo Lake after 3 miles. Here, you’ll find a number of lovely campsites and a refreshing swimming hole.
-After resting at Echo Lake, continue hiking another mile to reach North Fork Meadows. This is an idyllic spot with plenty of lakes, streams, and trees for shade. Hiking here is especially nice in early morning or late afternoon when the sunsets are beautiful.

To get to the trailhead from New York City, take the George Washington Bridge toll road to Exit 41 and drive east on Route 17 for about 8 miles to the Dunshee Road junction. Turn left onto Dunshee Road, drive 0.5 mile to the parking area on your right, and walk downhill 0.1 mile to the trailhead.
